Our Charities

Indigenous Carbon Australia

Indigenous Carbon Australia is an indigenous not-for-profit that works with remote Aboriginal communities to initiate carbon projects. These carbon projects generate income for Aboriginal communities for up to 25 years, creating employment opportunities that allow more First Nations people to stay on country. In addition, revenue from the projects delivers better healthcare, education, and enhanced living conditions.

Indigenous carbon projects also play an essential role in passing on Aboriginal cultural knowledge and practices that have been used for thousands of years – information that may otherwise be lost. On top of this, the projects protect important cultural heritage sites, native animals, and bush tucker and help Australia reduce carbon emissions and slow down global warming.

Indigenous Carbon Australia is a community-driven not-for-profit on a mission to empower Aboriginal communities to achieve financial independence.

The company’s Interim CEO, Mark Gasson, said, “To be recognised by the Byron Bay Lighthouse Run is an honour and will enable us to continue helping communities set up carbon projects on their traditional land.”

Mullumbimby Neighbourhood Centre

Womens Resource Service (WRS) is a program funded through Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) in the Integrated Domestic and Family Violence Services Program (ID&FVSP) that aims to empower and assist women toward safety, self-sufficiency and wellbeing through:

  • Information and support
  • Assessment of situation including risks and needs
  • Safety planning and referral to services to improve safety
  • Case-management and Case-coordination of multiple services
  • Support groups focused on education and recovery from trauma
  • Community education

WRS also steers the local DV Committee – Byron Shire Integrated Domestic Violence Committee – which has members from NSW Police, Community Corrections, NSW Health, Drug and Alcohol services, family support services, Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (WDVCAS). The committee is a multi-agency response which aims to improve outcomes for those affected by domestic violence through increased and more proactive services to victims and children, intentional and co-ordinated criminal justice responses and integrated service systems, and through taking preventative action by way of community education.

Safe Haven

The NSW Government and Healthy North Coast in 2022 launched four new Safe Haven community support and wellbeing hubs across the Northern Rivers region to offer mental health support and build community resilience.

Established and funded by Healthy North Coast through the New South Government Northern NSW Flood Recovery Program, the four sites are delivered and managed by local organisation, The Buttery. Located in Lismore, Murwillumbah, Mullumbimby and  Woodburn, Safe Haven hubs offer a free ‘drop-in’ service that operates 7 days a week, from 12-6pm.
