Indigenous Carbon Australia is an indigenous not-for-profit that works with remote Aboriginal communities to initiate carbon projects. These carbon projects generate income for Aboriginal communities for up to 25 years, creating employment opportunities that allow more First Nations people to stay on country. In addition, revenue from the projects delivers better healthcare, education, and enhanced living conditions.
Indigenous carbon projects also play an essential role in passing on Aboriginal cultural knowledge and practices that have been used for thousands of years – information that may otherwise be lost. On top of this, the projects protect important cultural heritage sites, native animals, and bush tucker and help Australia reduce carbon emissions and slow down global warming.
Indigenous Carbon Australia is a community-driven not-for-profit on a mission to empower Aboriginal communities to achieve financial independence.
The company’s Interim CEO, Mark Gasson, said, “To be recognised by the Byron Bay Lighthouse Run is an honour and will enable us to continue helping communities set up carbon projects on their traditional land.”
